Immortality or just a little longer?

One of the Emperors expeditions

Kings, religions and rulers of the past and almost every civilisation that preceded ours have been obsessed with achieving immortality. The first Emperor of China Qin Shi Huang like most feared death, he executed scholars and demanded missions in search of a 1,000 year old magician. Those that were sent looking for the elixir never returned, they most likely feared execution for failure. 


Scientists at the University of Nottingham have found that the effects of spaceflight on a worm may have increased it's lease of life. 


"They discovered that spaceflight suppressed accumulation of toxic proteins that normally accumulate within ageing muscle. They also discovered a group of genes that are expressed at lower levels during spaceflight. When the expression of these same genes were lowered in worms back on Earth the worms lived longer."
